Abstract
An Italian program to develop technologies to support advanced transportation systems is discussed, focusing on the technologies required for developing SSTO and two-stage-to-orbit launchers. The technology areas considered are thermal protection and control, advanced structures and materials, tests and computation methods, and guidance, navigation, and control. Programs to develop technology in each of these areas are outlined.
